My name is Prem Shashi and I’m a full-time Quant Analyst, part-time wannabe photographer, based in Salt Lake City, US.

I have always had a love of the outdoors, especially the national parks, and it is that interest that eventually brought me to photography in 2010. It was then that I bought my first DSLR and started the process of turning my ‘picture taking’ into ‘image making’. It is a great escape from my full-time job and a means to get out and travel around in my free time.

As is evident from the gallery page on my website, I really enjoy landscape and wildlife photography, two fairly opposing genres, and I generally end up switching my focus between the two throughout the year. I love the ‘thrill of the chase’ offered by wildlife photography and the reward of getting to spend time in the presence of some of the great wildlife in the US. I also enjoy the more relaxed approach of immersing myself in the landscape in order to overcome the challenges that photographing the landscape presents. The image you see is just as I had captured it, with natural light as the key element in each picture. I try to draw the viewer into the image to share with them the excitement of being on location and taking the photograph.

So many words are written by so many around photographic equipment, whether it is about spec sheets of the latest bodies or lenses or arguments over which brand is best. Equipment is far from the be-all and end-all of photography – all that matters is that you know how to use the equipment you have. Therefore, I strive to understand how to get the best out of my equipment within the bounds of its capability, trying to make the most of the potential it holds – I’m sure I’m always the limiting factor!

I’ll happily refer to myself as a camera geek. To satisfy those that are interested in the specifics of these things, I currently use the below and could not be happier with the results:

• Canon 7D Mark II
• Panasonic GH4
• Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM ART
• Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 PRO DX-II
• Canon 50mm f/1.8 STM
• Tamron 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD
• Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine AS UMC
• Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Tripod with 502HD Fluid Video Head

It is my hope that through photography I am able to share my passion for and inspire people to take a greater interest in the outside world and to travel as much as possible.
